Lace Closures

Hello!

Hope you ladies are doing well. Today I want to share with you what lace closures are and how to install them.

In my own words Lace Closures are the Boom.com. They are the icing on a cake, the cherry on top really. One of the reasons why we buy expensive weaves is because we want to have a natural looking weave kinda like it’s your own hair and not a weave. Lace closures give us just that!

It looks like the hair is growing from your scalp and not a weft. When done right you get the same hair look that aboBeyonce have.

Basically a closure is a piece that you add to the top of your head to hide the tracks of your weave. It comes in various sizes such as 4inch  X 4inch and 3.5inc X 4inch. These sizes mean that you would leave that amount of space at the top of your head when you install your weave. Then install the closure in that space.

To get the ultimate natural look you need to bleach the knot of the closure so that the lace closure will look like your scalp. Bleaching the knots mean you use a bleaching powder mixture on the lace of the closure. When doing this you need to make sure that the bleach does not go through to the hair on the closure. I’ll do another post on how to do this.

The closure can be installed in various ways. It depends on the persons preferences and head on how they install it. Some use clue and some sew it in. You can also leave some of your own hair out  with the closure or not leave any at all.

The texture, type and length of a closure; Closures come in different lengths and hair textures just like weaves do. So if you have a deep wave weave on you can get a closure that matches that. If you have Brazilian hair on you can get a closure with Brazilian hair too. You can also mix hair types with your weave and closure. You can have a Brazilian weave on with a Peruvian Closure and vice versa.  You can just blend the hair in and they won’t be difference that is noticeable.

I think for your first closure you should get a straight hair type closure because it is versatile. If you have a deep wave weave on, you can use the straight closure and just curl it.

The length of a closure is also not restricted by the weave that you have on. It is better to get a shorter closure because it creates that layered natural look.

Tips on how to care for your Weave

Hello!

Hope you ladies are doing well. So today I will just share with you some tips I’ve come across with how to maintain your weave.

The most basic thing I can tell you is Treat this hair just as if it was your own hair. It is after all hair grown from someone might have not been you but it’s still from another human.

1. 1   Co- Wash your weave
   When you get the hair you need to wash it. It has been washed by the supplier but you still need to wash it, I mean its HUMAN hair so it was on someone else’s head for who knows how long.
   How to Co-Wash:
   Basically co-wash is washing your weave with a conditioner only without using a shampoo first.
   1.     Wet the hair with lukewarm water
   2.     Apply a decent amount of conditioner onto the hair
   3.     Leave the hair for 10-15mins
   4.     Rinse the conditioner out with lukewarm water.
   5.     Complete the co-wash process with a leave-in conditioner on the hair to keep in moisture, and revitalize the hair
   6.     Hang your hair to dry naturally without any heat, unless you are in a rush and have to heat dry it.
   
   
   2.     Combing your weave
   1.     First part hair in to small sections.
   2.     Always use a wide-tooth comb or a big brush(I got mine at Cheakers for R40.)
   3.     Start from the bottom and work your way up
   4.     For the tight curly hair please detangle it when in water with condition and shampoo, don’t comb it after it is dry, otherwise will cause tangling and matting

   3.     Using heat on your weave
   Heat can be your hairs worst enemy. The more heat you use on your hair, the shorter the longevity of your hair will last. Wavy, straight, and curly hair can be straighten and restyled as desired, but please know that you’re taking your own risk by applying heat on your hair back and forth.
   Purchase the pattern you want, I wouldn't advice you change the existing pattern to an extreme pattern with heat a lot, because this can cause non-repairable damages. I suggest using Flexi Rods; these get your hair wavy or curly without heat. I personally love my flexi rods! They are very easy to use with great results. Check out my previous post for how to use them and where to get them.
   
   
   4.     When your weave sheds
   DON’T WORRY….Please expect some minimal strands to come out. To prevent shedding you must seal your wefts, which should be done before installing.  Also keep pulling (running fingers through hair...I do this all the time *sigh*) and combing to a minimum, since these acts promote breakage.
   Tip:
   When you install your weave ask your hair stylist to not cut the weave but fold it on the edges. Also tell them to not go through the weft with the needle. i have included my hairstylists details below.
   
   
   5.     Daily Care for your weave
   Keep hair in clean, moisturised and nutritious, wash and condition it once per week or at least once every two week, spray moistening every day (especially for curly hair), braid it before sleeping or wrap your hair before bed.
   
   
   6.     Product to use on your weave
   Use good quality salon recommended shampoo and conditioning products, because conditioning the hair is very important to keep it soft and manageable, also use a good leave-in conditioner. This is key to getting rid of any particles or dirt left on hair. 
   Tip: this is a tip I picked up on YouTube.
   If you don’t have a leave-in conditioner, pour your normal mild conditioner into a spray bottle and add some water into it, not too much water just enough for it to spray well and not be too watery. You can use this mixture daily.
   
   
   Note: When you buy the hair from Weave Obsession, I can seal it and co-wash for you before I deliver it. These are an extra cost.

Curling with Flexi Rods

Hello!

I love to curl my hair and the easiest tool to use for me is the curling flexi rods.  They are easy to wrap your hair around and sleeping with them on is not painful at all.

I did smaller curls this time and used one rod at a time. Came out pretty great if I can say so myself.

For this style I used the thin long rods because I want the curls to be smaller and tighter. If you want bigger curls you can use the bigger size rods.

I would suggest you do this the night before so your curls would be tighter and last longer.

Tip: If you only have thin rods and you want bigger curls, use 3 rods per section of hair instead of one.

You will need:

1.     Hair brush

2.     Flexi Rods (I got mine at Dischem for R40 for a pack of 8)

3.     Tresemme Heat defence smooth and soft  cream serum

4.     Scalf to protect your hair over night

Step 1:

·        Brush your hair to remove all the tangling and knots

Step 2:

·        Separate your hair into 2 section and put them on both sides on your head

Step 3:

·        Pour a small amount of the Tresemme serum into your palm, rub gently and apply into one section of your hair

·        Do the same for the other section

·        Note: I used the heat defence serum even though I won’t be using any heat because I like on my hair, its light and gives it a bit of shine

Step 4:

·        Start with side of the hair and take small sections of the hair

Step 5:

·        Take one of our rods and start from the bottom of the hair

·        Wrap your ends to the rod, not to tightly

·        Now wrap the hair on the rod, going in an upwards direction. Try not wrap over one spot more than 2times

·        So your rod should have hair from bottom to the top

Step 6:

·        Fold the rod into a ring until the whole rod is folded

Step 7:

·        Do Step5 and Step6 until you have completed all your hair.

Step 8:

·        Once all done cover your head with a scarf and you can sleep with it like that.

Step 9:

·        Morning after, remove all the rods from your hair

·        Undo the ring of the rod

·        Then unwrap the hair from the rod, try not to pull the rod down

Tip: Loosen the hair on the rod and pull the rod off without unwrapping the curl

Step 10:

·        Run your four fingers through the curls to separate them and make them look more natural

Step 11:

·        Now you can style it however you like or just let them loose like I did

Colour: Colour 1B at the top and colour 4 at the bottom, I coloured the hair myself

Lengths: 18inch and 16inch (I have two bundles of 18” and one bundle of 16”)

Curl em up!

Hello!

I always prefer straight hair over curly when I buy hair, mainly because I can do so much with straight hair. I can wear it straight or curly and I can change the type of curls on it too.

I will show you on this post how I curled my straight Brazilian hair into a lose curl.

You will need:

1.     Hair Brush

2.     Electric Thong, I got mine at Checkers for R79

3.     Tresemme Heat defence smooth and soft  cream serum

4.     Water spray bottle

5.     Bobby pins

6.     Mini Straightener. I got mine at Dischem for R50

Mixing the Serum into the Water Bottle

Firstly I do this because the serum is a cream so it’s easier to spray it onto the hair evenly than to rub it in

·        Poor the serum into the water bottle(doesn’t matter how much, just don’t fill up the bottle)

·        Add some water into it; DO NOT add too much water. We want the serum to spray well through the bottle but we do not want it to be watery too much.

·        Shake the bottle well to mix the two

·        Add  bit more water or serum if the consistence is not right

Step 1:

·        Brush your hair to remove all the tangling and knots

·        Spray your hair evenly with the Tresemme serum from the water bottle

·        Brush your hair again to get the serum all over

·        Note: DO NOT spray too much, you  do not want your hair to be wet

Step 2:

·        Separate your hair into 2 section and put them on both sides on your head

Don't mind my PJs yall

Step 3:

·        On one side separate it in to 3or 4 sections

·        For lose curls take big sections and smaller sections for tighter curls

·        As you can see below I take rather bigger sections

 Step 4:

·        Take your Thong and do not open the thong mouth while using it, we are going to use it as a Curling Ward(Which is on my Xmas list, so father Christmas must do the right thang!)

·        Wrap your hair around the thong, try to spread the hair on the thong and not wrap hair over each other

·        Hold the hair onto the thong for about 10seconds( if you took bigger sections hold it for longer)

Step 5:

·        Release the hair slightly from thong without unwrapping it from the thong

·        Once the thong is removed hold the hair against your head with your hand securing the curl for 5 to 7 seconds

·        You can let go after that

Step 6: Do this if you are doing night before like I was

·        Than you can pin the curl into your head with a bobby pin

·        This will make it stay in place during the night and not lose the curl

Step 7:

·        Do steps 4 to 6 for the rest of the hair that is left.

Step 8:

·        Put a scarf on to protect the hair while you sleep

Step 9: Do this the next morning

·        Remove the bobby pins from your hair

·        Run your fingers through the curls to loosen them up and make them look natural

Step 10:

·        Use the mini straightener to straighten your natural hair so its not out of place or sticking out

Step 11:

·        You can now style your hair however you like

·        I just simple took all the hair into one side and pinned the one side

Step 12:

·        Take a pic of your fabulous hair  and mail me, I’ll add it to my blog (weaveobsession@gmail.com)
